The Career Office was established to provide services to students and graduates of the State Vocational University of prof. Stanislaw Tarnowski in Tarnobrzeg (Polish abbreviation - PUZ) broadly understood assistance in entering and functioning effectively on the labour market, reducing unemployment among students and graduates and promoting the university where it functions. It serves as an information, counselling and mediation centre for students.
The first Careers Services were established in Great Britain at the end of the 19th century, and their experience and developed operating standards became a model for other European countries, as well as America and Australia. A very well-organized network of British AGCAS offices www.agcas.org.uk has become a significant element in the UK career counseling system. Career offices appeared in Poland in the 1990s. The first ones were created at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń in 1993 as a pilot project, followed by others. Currently, there are about 150 Career Offices in our country, and each of them serves as an information center about the labor market, the skills of students and graduates, and the requirements of employers.
The Careers Office is used by students and graduates who want to obtain career advice, information about the labor market and opportunities to improve their qualifications, as well as by employers looking for the most suitable candidates for vacant jobs.
