Health insurance

According to Article 66, point 20 of the Act of August 27, 2004, on healthcare services financed from public funds (consolidated text: Journal of Laws of 2022, item 2561, as amended), students and doctoral candidates are subject to mandatory health insurance. Based on this, they have the right to use healthcare services within the scope of health insurance throughout the country, both at their permanent place of residence and at the place of study, in facilities with agreements concluded with the National Health Fund (NFZ).

The university reports students who are not subject to mandatory health insurance for other reasons to health insurance when they submit a relevant statement to the university. Additionally, students who do not hold citizenship of a EU or EFTA member state and are not individuals mentioned in Article 27, point 1, item 3 of the Act of August 27, 2004, on healthcare services financed from public funds, and who study in Poland, possess a valid Polish Card or have been recognized as persons of Polish origin in accordance with the repatriation regulations, and are not subject to mandatory health insurance for other reasons, can be insured on the same terms as students of Polish origin.

The right to healthcare for individuals who have completed their studies expires 4 months after completion or removal from the list of students. According to the Act of August 27, 2004, on healthcare services financed from public funds, every student, including doctoral students, is deregistered from insurance as a "child" reported by the parent upon turning 26 years old. From that day, the obligation to report them to insurance falls on the university if the student is not insured for other reasons (e.g., employment contract, mandate contract, or as the spouse of an insured person).

The insured person has the right to choose a primary healthcare physician (first contact) from healthcare providers who have signed agreements for the provision of healthcare services with the NFZ in a given calendar year. The selection of such a doctor is made by submitting the appropriate declaration (choice of a doctor, nurse/midwife providing primary healthcare). These declarations are available, for example, in clinics or medical offices providing such services. It is important to note that the free choice of a primary healthcare physician can be made twice a year.
